Message from the Board President

Dear GlobalSkin Members,

I am sending a heartfelt thank you to all our members that have been actively involved in the initiatives that GlobalSkin has been working on so far this year! Especially those that have contributed to the Regional Engagement Series. We will use your feedback to develop regional reports to advance our advocacy and support implementation of the “All Skin Diseases” World Health Assembly Resolution. We held six Regional Workshops that are helping to inform GlobalSkin's input in the development of a Global Action Plan on Skin Diseases as called for in the WHA Resolution. We are grateful to everyone who contributed their insights.

GlobalSkin at the AAD Annual Meeting 2026

GlobalSkin will attend at the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Annual Meeting taking place March 27–31 in Denver, USA. Representing the organization will be GlobalSkin Board President, Marc Yale, Operations & Research Programs Director, Allison FitzGerald, and Strategic Partnerships Manager, Jakub Sadocha.

Leading into the AAD, Allison will attend and deliver a presentation at the Association for Psychoneurocutaneous Medicine of North America Annual Meeting and speak at their gala event.

During the AAD, GlobalSkin will be promoting the PRIDD measure —the first fully validated patient-reported impact measure in dermatology—at Booth 3363 in the Exhibition Hall (near the industry meeting rooms). The booth will showcase how PRIDD can be applied across research and clinical settings to capture patient-centered impact and strengthen the measurement of dermatological outcomes, while offering attendees insight into its development and real-world applications. We invite you to visit the booth to explore PRIDD in more detail.

GlobalSkin CEO at EU Parliament

On February 26, 2026, GlobalSkin CEO, Jennifer Austin, participated in a panel discussion during the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV)-hosted event, “More than just skin: Turning global commitments on skin diseases into EU and national action,” held at the European Parliament. The session explored how the WHA Skin Diseases Resolution can be translated from global commitments into meaningful action across the European Union and at national levels.

The event—co-sponsored by two Members of the European Parliament—brought together dermatology experts, skin patient advocates, policymakers, organizations supporting implementation of Skin Diseases resolution, and representatives from several GlobalSkin Member organizations.

GlobalSkin to Attend WHO Meetings in April

GlobalSkin has once again received an invitation from the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) to take part in their official meetings with the World Health Organization (WHO). GlobalSkin CEO Jennifer Austin, along with our Public Affairs Director Visnja Zaborski Breton, will be present at the meetings taking place April 14-16, 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland. We look forward to bringing the patient perspective to the important discussions with WHO departments including Neglected Tropical Diseases, Non-communicable Diseases, Ageing, Occupational Health, and Essential Medicines.

We'll take this opportunity to discuss advancing the Global Action Plan, an activity stemming from the Skin Diseases Resolution. We'll also meet with like-minded global advocacy organizations strengthening international coordination to further advance skin health.

Discover the Unseen Challenge of Living with a Skin Disease

As patient advocates, we know all too well that skin diseases have a profound impact far beyond what we see on the surface.

GlobalSkin is a proud partner of the L'Oréal Act for Dermatology program which brings together patient organizations, medical associations and health care professionals to increase access to skin health.

In this film, produced for L'Oréal Dermatological Beauty by BBC StoryWorks, we hear from Mpume and Elle who are among the over two billion people living with skin conditions and diseases around the world.

Watch the film to learn more about the positive impact that access to skin health has had on their lives. And hear from Global health dermatologist Dr. Esther Freeman. View here.

WHO Global Action Plan on Skin Diseases

GlobalSkin continues to monitor progress in the developement of the Global Action Plan (GAP), an integral part of the WHA Skin Diseases Resolution adopted in May last year. We are in close contact with the World Health Organization and the team in the Neglected Tropical Diseases Department who are leading this ground-breaking work. This strategic framework document will be included on the agenda for the 80th World Health Assembly in 2027 where Member States will debate and be invited to adopt it.

This Global Action Plan will serve as the guide for national governments to develop their own plans on skin diseases. Our community will be empowered for many years to come in calling upon governments to deliver on the promises to which they committed when adopting the resolution.

Consultation Timeline

The WHO will be leading public consultations on the draft Global Action Plan from mid-April until early May 2026. We understand that the process will involve an online submission managed through a dedicated WHO website. Links and documents will be shared once received.

This is another important opportunity for our community to ensure that the voices of civil society are heard and reflected in the Global Action Plan. We encourage our Members, partners and all dermatology stakeholders to take part in the consultation process. Please stay tuned for more information!

Community Updates
GlobalSkin's 2026 Rare Disease Day Campaign

On February 28, GlobalSkin and our RareDERM Community - a network of more than 153 patient organizations representing approximately 29 rare dermatological diseases across all six WHO regions - once again united to raise global awareness of rare skin diseases on Rare Disease Day. Our campaign elevated the voices and lived experiences of people affected by rare skin diseases, highlighting both the challenges they face and the resilience of the community.

We invite you to read our Rare Disease Day Report here.

Thank you to our Members, partners, and patient advocates for helping make Rare Disease Day 2026 a powerful global moment for rare skin diseases.

A Recap of the RareDERM Coffee Chat

The first RareDERM Community Coffee Chat of 2026 took place on March 17, bringing members together for an engaging and insightful discussion. The session was led by Chief of Staff and Strategy at the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research, Tricha Shivas, and a member of the RareDERM Advisory Committee. Titled “Information Gathering, Data Sharing, Registries and Beyond,” the event explored the importance of social listening and collecting patient insights to support research and improve clinical care.

Drawing on real-world experience, Tricha provided practical perspectives and examples that resonated with participants. The discussion offered an interactive and collaborative space, encouraging attendees to exchange ideas, ask questions, and learn from one another.

GlobalSkin's Presence at the IRDiRC Meeting

GlobalSkin’s Director of Programs, Tammi Shipowick, attended the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC) Assembly and Scientific Committees Meeting held March 18–19 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The meeting brought together funders, researchers, industry, and patient organizations to advance the rare disease research agenda and improve outcomes for people living with rare diseases.

As Vice-Chair of the Patient Advocates Constituent Committee (PACC), Tammi engaged in discussions with fellow members on the Committee’s goals and priorities. The two-day meeting also featured key conversations on the role of National Mirror Groups, the value of patient partnerships in research and regulatory processes, and the ethical considerations of AI-driven tools in rare disease research.

Attendance at the World Congress on Rare Skin Diseases in July

GlobalSkin will be participating in the 3rd World Congress on Rare Skin Diseases (WCRSD), taking place July 1-3, 2026 in Versailles, France. As part of the event, GlobalSkin will co-host a Patient Symposium, where patient perspectives and lived experiences will be brought to the forefront of discussions on rare skin diseases.

2026 World Atopic Eczema Campaign Theme

Each year the global Atopic Eczema community comes together on September 14th for World Atopic Eczema Day. We raise awareness for atopic eczema; speak up about its burden on patients and caregivers, and the need for care and treatment that is reflective of the multidimensional nature of the disease. This year’s theme is Atopic Eczema #BreakTheInvisibleBurden.

Campaign materials are being collaboratively developed by GlobalSkin and EFA and will be shared with the Community in May to support their activities. GlobalSkin will also once again offer the World Atopic Eczema Day Fund to financially assist our Members in their campaign execution. Details about the Fund will be shared in coming weeks.

Atopic Eczema Community Coffee Chat

Connect with fellow Atopic Eczema Community members over coffee on April 9 at 10 AM ET. The Coffee Chat will be hosted by President and Executive Director of the International Topic Steroid and Addiction Network (ITSAN), Kelly Barta. She will share the journey of advocating about Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW) and lead a conversation around challenges and successes in its recognition as a distinct disease area. She will also be joined by Dr. Peter Lio, who will provide a clinical overview of the condition and how it is distinct from severe eczema. We look forward to seeing you there! GlobalSkin-Europe Coffee Chat Recap

GlobalSkin-Europe held an informal Coffee Chat on March 20, bringing members together to exchange updates and discuss key priorities for the coming months. The discussion covered upcoming GlobalSkin-Europe activities as well as GlobalSkin's regional consultation linked to the WHA Skin Resolution, with participants sharing perspectives on how organizations across the region can contribute to the process.

The session also provided an opportunity for members to connect, highlight current developments within their organizations, and explore ways to further strengthen collaboration within the GlobalSkin-Europe network. The conversation reaffirmed the value of regular informal exchanges to maintain coordination and support collective advocacy efforts across the region.

EFPIA Patient Think Tank

GlobalSkin-Europe was present at the EFPIA Patient Think-Tank meeting on March 12. The event brought together patient organizations and stakeholders to discuss emerging developments in the European health policy landscape and their implications for patient engagement. Participants reflected on the 2026 policy outlook, exploring how upcoming EU health initiatives may shape opportunities for patient organizations to contribute to policymaking and stakeholder dialogue.

The meeting highlighted how geopolitical changes and broader global challenges may impact European patients and healthcare systems. Discussions also focused on new Conflict of Interest (CoI) frameworks, examining how evolving transparency and governance requirements may influence patient organization/industry partner collaboration.

Presence at EFA-hosted event

On January 13, GlobalSkin’s Senior Advisor Europe Yalchin Mammadov attended an event at the European Parliament hosted by European Federation of Allergy and Airways Diseases Patients' Associations (EFA). There they launched their Atopic Eczema #BreakTheInvisibleBurden campaign, alongside many patient organizations, policy makers and Members of European Parliament.

The discussion referenced the development of a Global Action Plan on Skin Diseases and highlighted the need for stronger data, better access to dermatology care, and greater attention to the physical and mental impact of skin diseases. Stronger action on Atopic Eczema within Europe was also emphasized, alongside calls for its inclusion in future health initiatives and improved evidence on disparities in care and access.

Networks and Young Patient Leaders Council
GlobalSkin Regional Networks

During the first quarter of 2026, GlobalSkin Regional Networks had the opportunity to work together by inputting their collective voices into the Regional Engagement Workshop Series. Thank you to Working Group members for mobilizing their communities to join and participate. The Regional Network Working Groups for Asia Pacific, Latin America and Africa are fully formed, with leadership helping to drive priorities and goals within these Regions. Together they are working on their collaborative projects leveraging findings from the Regional Engagement Series.

Young Patient Leaders Coffee Chat

The Young Patient Leader (YPL) Working Group held its first Coffee Chat of 2026 – What We Carry, What We Build – Session 1, on March 26. The interactive session served as a supportive space for young patient advocates to connect and learn from one another. During the session they shared lived experiences of different dermatological conditions, learned from past advocacy projects led by fellow youth councils, exchanged ideas and challenges and built stronger connections across global networks. Thank you to our Members in the YPL Council who attended.

GlobalSkin’s Co-Authored Article in the JEADV

GlobalSkin’s Operations and Research Programs Director Allison FitzGerald contributed as a co-author to a newly published article in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (JEADV), titled “Building the foundations for an international patient-centred outcomes set for psoriasis: A scoping study.” This publication is part of the ongoing PsoVOS initiative, led by the International Federation for Psoriasis Associations and the International Psoriasis Council.

Through this work, GlobalSkin continues to advocate for the inclusion of PRIDD—the first fully validated patient-reported impact measure in dermatology—within a core outcome set for psoriasis. Early results suggest that PRIDD performs strongly compared with other measures, highlighting its promise as a valuable tool for capturing the real-world impact of psoriasis from the patient perspective. Read the full article here.

World Skin Health Coalition

The World Skin Health Coalition continues to grow bringing together 36 Partners (including 18 patient organizations, eight medical and healthcare professional organizations, and ten industry Partners) all united in the mission to raise awareness of the global impact of skin diseases/conditions and to increase their prioritization in health policy.

With the World Health Assembly Resolution on Skin Diseases having been adopted, the Coalition's focus is firmly on implementation of the resolution at all policy levels. Coalition Partners will be supporting advocacy efforts to encourage Member States to act on their commitments and drive accountability of governments and policymakers.

A key priority for the Coalition in 2026 is to ensure that each Partner's network can fully appreciate the Resolution's value for their stakeholder group and are equipped with tools to better leverage and advocate for implementation. The Coalition launched a new Resolution Implementation Working Group which is developing practical materials to deliver impactful advocacy for implementation, exploring complementary intersections with other WHA77/78 Resolutions, and co-creating resources and guidance to support advocacy activities.

Skin Diseases Resolution InfoDoc

Thinking of the wider dermatology community, the Coalition created a Skin Diseases Resolution InfoDoc that in plain language explains the resolution and outlines Member State commitments and goals for global and national action plans. You can download it here. As the Coalition develops more resources through their work, these helpful documents will be posted on the Coalition website.

These resources can help you leverage the resolution in your advocacy activities as our community continues to call for its implementation. As catalysts of this global movement that helped bring this Skin Diseases Resolution to adoption, we must now focus on holding Member States accountable to the commitments they made and continue to strive towards a more equal world for people who live with common and rare skin diseases.
